Krom... and SLAM Last Fridays

Krom Balgesky is a Bulgarian artist working in Deptford. His striking outdoor drawings are popping up all over the place (here in the Sue Godfrey Nature Park, for instance). On Friday 26th July he'll be showing his work indoors at the Arthub Gallery (5-9 Creekside). Open from 6pm, with a 'performance' at 7pm.

More on Krom

Friday is also South London Art Map's late opening night, with galleries in Deptford, Bankside and Peckham open 6-8pm. At Occupy My Time gallery in Resolution Way, artist Andy Wicks will be focusing on the history of the Thames and its relationship to Deptford. More info at South London Art Map.

  2. In a gallery maybe - but not in Sue Godfrey Nature Park. I've just walked though and seen it - it really jarrs with the rest of the lovely wild landscape! As a long-standing resident I was a bit shocked, and came onto this site to find out if the Tenants & Residents Association had given permission or knew about this.
In the past, any proposed art project had to be agreed by the T & RA, who would first consult with the residents to ensure the majority of residents were happy with it. We have some lovely art on and around the estate as a result of this. It really is not on for someone to just' impose'their' idea of art on a much-loved local space for residents as has been done here. Krum, please respect this and remove it. Thank you.

  3. impressive work. I love the modern art of outdoor artworks / graffiti. It has evolved somewhat. It started off as scribbling but now the artists are really trying to make an impression.

  4. I am all for modern art and outdoor artworks in general, but with the proviso that artists should be sensitive to the locations they choose, be prepared to consult with people living in the areas first and be sensitive as to what type(s) of art would most fit the surrounding landscape. None of this happened in this case. It really is an eyesore on what is otherwise a lovely space.

  5. I agree. On artistic merit alone, the colours, lines and general design are completely out of place in the park- as such no better than graffiti.

  6. The three anonymous haters are very low educated in visual art and if the artists were asking people like you before they paint , everything were going to be painted with the excrement colour of the wall now !
