Busy weekend of Creekside music and art starting tonight

Starting with Number3London...

We've slagged off her landlord in the previous post, but we wish only the best to Caffy St Luce and her latest Rocklands project Number3Live Sessions launching at Number 3 Creekside this evening (and continuing 12th and 19th December). The bill tonight is Rhiannon The Nightmare, Jean Genie's Massive Hugs, James Fisher and DJ Gavin Black. It's free entry, doors are 7pm.

Despite the planning application being unresolved, the licensing is in place, so it's likely to be a late one, and a good opportunity for the nearby Crossfields residents to test the sound and noise barriers! Here's hoping their evenings won't be disturbed, and everyone has a great time.

Artwise, it's Christmas Open Studios at Cockpit Arts  – lots of visitors expected as usual as people come from far and wide to pick up classy and crafty Chrismas presents at studio prices at Numbers 18-22 Creekside. It's free entry from 11am till 9pm today but a £3 ticket price over the weekend (which allows entry both days, Sat & Sun 11am-6pm).

APT Gallery at Number 6 Creekside and Arthub Studios at Numbers 5-9 Creekside hope to attract some of these visitors to their own Christmas sales – though of course it might be the other way round! APT were open late for 'SLAM Last Fridays' last weekend and the traffic on Creekside was terrible! Tonight they'll be open from 6–8pm and 1-5pm on Sat & Sun.

Arthub Studios & Gallery's 'Snap it up!' offers a free glass of mulled wine this evening (6-9pm), a DJ and some 'screen printing' (not sure what that means!). Then they're open 1-5pm on the weekend.

Next week on Saturday 13 December, there's a Winterfair at the Arthouse and a Vintage Christmas & Craft market at The Albany.

Krom... and SLAM Last Fridays

Krom Balgesky is a Bulgarian artist working in Deptford. His striking outdoor drawings are popping up all over the place (here in the Sue Godfrey Nature Park, for instance). On Friday 26th July he'll be showing his work indoors at the Arthub Gallery (5-9 Creekside). Open from 6pm, with a 'performance' at 7pm.

More on Krom

Friday is also South London Art Map's late opening night, with galleries in Deptford, Bankside and Peckham open 6-8pm. At Occupy My Time gallery in Resolution Way, artist Andy Wicks will be focusing on the history of the Thames and its relationship to Deptford. More info at South London Art Map.

Creekside Ahoy! Thursday–Sunday 6-9 June

Arthub Gallery in Creekside invites you to a SILENT AUCTION of artists' postcards in which you are invited to bid on postcard-sized artworks for a very good cause – the Ahoy Centre in Borthwick Street, Deptford.

The exhibition includes small works by local artists, both internationally renowned and unknown. The Silent Auction will take place throughout the exhibition, and the identity of the artists will only be revealed when the work is bought. Bidders can post their bid in one of the boxes in the gallery and at the end of the show the highest bidder wins. Minimum bid is £20.

THE AHOY CENTRE

The Ahoy Centre is a registered charity which works in the community to enhance people's lives through sailing and rowing. They believe that outdoor activities inspire learning and help to build life skills essential for future life and employment. They run courses for schools, disabled groups and youth groups and for groups of 4 adults or more.

A Pathway to Employment course for 16-24 year olds not in education or employment offers the opportunity for young people to increase their personal skills for a future in water sports, boat building and maintenance or the leisure industry. Participants also get to apply for two apprenticeship schemes run by the centre in Activity Leadership and Boat building/Marine engineering. Their Show Me Why programme works with youth at risk of offending or who have already offended to channel them into further education, apprenticeships and employment.

Water sports activities include sailing, powerboating and rowing and the Ahoy is a rocognised Royal Yachting Association training centre. A small staff are aided by freelance instructors and a wealth of volunteers. Totally Oarsome! is the centre's fundraising campaign where participants get to learn to row and then to compete in rowing challenges to raise sponsorship, including the Great River Race (London's water marathon), and the Cross Channel Row Challenge (rowing from Dover to Calais!).
