Happy Mondays at the Amersham

After a brief absence, Happy Mondays is back at the Amersham Arms with their usual mix of well-known comedians trying out new material, regular radio contributors who you've never seen in person, and up-and-coming jesters just starting out.

More often than not the bill has a range of performers that trumps the predominantly white male comedy status quo, and is hosted by the lovely Holly Walsh (lovely as long as she doesn't pick on you in the audience!).

New Deptford nights out

 

A new Comedy Club launched at The Big Red last Saturday. Click on the image above for details of days, times and prices.

Meanwhile, Little Nan's Bar launched last Friday. It's downstairs in the old Bunker Club at 46 Deptford Broadway and has 'popped up' to stay for six months, open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5-11pm.

Tiger beer for £3.40 a pint, Strongbow Cider for £2.90 a pint and loads of vintage priced cocktails and premium spirits, bottled beers, ciders, ales and wines - along with Victoria Sponge cake, Cheese straws (88 year old Recipe) and Million Dollar Shortbread.

Greenwich Comedy Festival

Tickets are a pricey £18.50-£24 in the Big Top. The 8-day festival is part of Greenwich Summer Festival, running from 4th July – 12th August.

New film about The Tunnel Club

Some of Crossfields' elders will remember the legendary Tunnel Palladium, a comedy club run by the late comic, compere and prankster Malcolm Hardee in the Mitre pub, situated in the middle of nowhere out in East Greenwich on the Blackwall Tunnel approach.

Sunday nights at The Tunnel are memorable for being where many of today's established comedians experienced their first baptism by fire in front of the hardest hecklers in town – locals from Greenwich and Deptford. Hardee also compered The Fez Club during the golden years of GLC funding at The Albany Empire around the same time, and later opened Up The Creek in Creek Road, before buying The Wibbley Wobbley floating pub at Greenland Dock in Rotherhithe.

Ex-Crossfielders (and a couple still here) have contributed to a new film by Jody VandenBurg. The Tunnel is a pilot for a new feature film to be made about Hardee, and the 30 minute short has been nominated in Film London's 'Best of Borough' Awards, which Jody hopes will win the public's vote. It is now online to watch and vote for on the Film London website:
