Poetry afternoon at McMillan Educational Herb Garden


If you're about this bank holiday and like a bit of poetry, there's an event happening on Sunday at McMillan Herb Garden (just off Creek Road, opposite Deptford Church Street) called Poems for Roderick. The FREE event is dedicated to Roderick Johnny who died last October, and features lots of local performing wordsmiths. All donations kindly received by MIND.

A Blow for Lol – Saturday 1st September 5pm-7pm

This Saturday there is an outdoor musical tribute to Lol Coxhill, who died last month.
Musicians include Charles Hayward, Steve Noble, Alex Ward, Nick Doyne-Ditmas and Sue Ferrar.
5pm-7pm, McMillan Herb Garden, McMillan Street.
Free entry, voluntary contribution, all proceeds to Lol's partner Ulrike.


A tribute also took place at the Herb Garden last Bank Holiday Monday with musicians Tom Scott, Nick Doyne-Ditmas, Adrian Northover and Simon Coxhill, hosted by Joe Bazouki. A mulberry tree was planted in Lol's memory (see Transpontine).

Deptford Soil at Utrophia


10th–24th December (Wed, Fri & Sat)

Deptford Soil is an exhibition of work by local artists who have an affiliation with the McMillan Herb Garden, a non-profit making organisation who run creative workshops for young people in Deptford. Events to accompany the exhibition as follows:

Saturday 10th December, 7pm
Home Grown Film Night
Featuring local films and live soundtrack from Rabbit 

Sunday 11th December, 5-7pm
Drumtrophia
8 or 9 drummers from the south east London music underground will be playing throughout the Utrophia space so that the sound moves across and through the space.

Wednesday 14th December, 6-9pm
Music from The Missing Puddings and The Conformists

Saturday 24th December, 12-4pm
End of the Road – music tbc

DRUM GARDEN
is a specially constructed performance by 10 or 11 drummers from the south east London underground, a highly motivated and vibrant scene with wildly individual players. We will be playing throughout the garden so that the sound moves across and through the space. Strategies have been devised to keep the playing fresh.

Great Green Rebels - Half Term Workshops

McMillan Educational Herb Garden is running halfterm workshops on Thursday & Friday 8th & 9th April, and Tuesday to Friday 13th-16th April, 11.30am-3.30pm.
