Market street waders

I've been wondering how the ponds they've installed where market shoppers used to walk would look after the first bit of rain. Of course, it will take a little heavier rain to really bring out its character.  And come the first frosts, we'll have our own free ice skating ring.

(If you build a pond, without drainage, in the middle of the road, water will come.  Shoppers won't.  Staggering incompetence.)

  1. I thought the road and pavement would be level. Then I don't think this issue would occur. I also hope they remove that tarmac at the bottom of the new lamp posts.

  2. I heard there was another layer of tarmac to go on to level it up. Would be interested to know what the plans are for parking – everyone's parking on the pavement when the market isn't there...

    1. That would cure it, of course. But as they're taking forever....

  3. A shopkeeper told me they're finishing the top end more quickly cos Tescos threatened to sue! Dunno how true that is. Either way the whole process has been a disaster for traders and shoppers and the sooner it's finished the better.

  4. Already a disaster for pedestrians, as drivers have decided they can arrogantly ignore parking restrictions, and park on the (currently raised) strips where the market stalls are sited on market days.

Or is that the council's intention? Free-for-all parking, and no saftey for shoppers?

  5. No. Oh no, they've taken the gutters out of Deptford? What in Lord Gods name are we supposed to roll in now?

  6. Is this what is meant by extending the High Street to the river?
